Melissa Smith is a Registered Dietitian and Marketing professional who began her career as a personal trainer. Her advocacy and passion for health and wellness have led her to become a nutrition expert, pursuing media and communications to connect people to evidenced-based nutrition. She grew up in South Florida but has since lived in multiple states, most recently, Chicago. She has always enjoyed cooking and baking at home, and life in Chicago sparked a passion for the restaurant and local market scene. While pursuing a masters in business, she found herself drawn to the startup community in Chicago, particularly food, beverage, and food technology startups. Her natural propensity for spotting trends and leading in innovation has allowed her opportunities to partner with cutting edge companies in Nutrigenomics and Telehealth. Melissa has experience working across nutrition, healthcare, and food sectors providing strategic planning, engaging content, consumer insights, and business growth.
Melissa serves as a Marketing and Business advisor for Hispanic Food Communications, a nutrition media company that works with large food brands to reach the Hispanic community with evidenced-based nutrition messages. She serves her dietetic community as a contributing writer and speaker, notably blogging for The Chicago Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and speaking at the South Suburban Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
